Environment

As an environmentally responsible company, green initiatives and sustainability have always been a part of the fabric of Melco. We have invested over MOP100 million in green technology to facilitate improved energy management and to address environmental concerns. City of Dreams utilizes the second largest centralized cooling system in South China’s hospitality industry and was the first and only hospitality facility in Macau to attain ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification, alongside the Indoor Environmental Quality Certificate. City of Dreams has also been honored for its high energy efficiency with its achievement of the Energy Saving Concept Award.

Furthermore, Melco is Macau’s first and only company to achieve the Green Standard of Excellence, a prestigious award recognizing environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. Melco’s entire portfolio of hotels in Macau, including Morpheus, Nüwa and The Countdown Hotel at City of Dreams, Studio City Hotel and Altira Macau, is honored with the globally recognized Green Key standard of excellence. The renowned eco-label recognizes commitment from companies in the tourism industry that comply with the rigorous environmental management standards as laid out by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

In 2019, Melco became the first and only hospitality group and integrated resort signatory of New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, a global initiative to tackle plastic waste and pollution, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with UN Environment. As a signatory, Melco is driven by a strong focus around environmental sustainability which is core to its strategy and daily operations. Melco is also the first integrated resort and hotel operator in the Macao SAR and Hong Kong SAR to receive ISO 41001:2018 for its efforts in facilities management system (FMS), and has also attained ISO 50001:2018 for effective energy management systems (EnMS).
